Sing

Celebrating a genre that is neither purely Scots Gaelic or Appalachian, Jennifer's new album, 'Sing', represents the evolution of todays crossroads. Jennifer sings Scots Gaelic dance & work songs from the perspective of the music’s adopted home in the Carolinas. Original songs in English that express her own folk music style compliment this new Celtic sound which could only have taken root from a North Carolina native who spent her childhood years Scottish dancing. Producer and instrumentalist Patsy O’Brien approached the song arrangements with the musical traditions of the appalachian region in mind. The songs on SING are the branches that cover many current and past generations of Scottish people and culture in North Carolina.

Fill-iu o ro hu o, bu tu mo chruinneag bhóidheach, fill-u oro hu o
Dhéidhinn dhan a’ ghealaich leat nan gealladh to mo phósadh
Fill-iu o ro hu o, bu tu mo chruinneag bhóidheach, fill-u oro hu o
Dhédhinn leat a dh’Uibhist far am buidheachadh an t-eórna
Fill-iu o ro hu o, bu tu mo chruinneag bhóidheach, fill-u oro hu o
Dhéidhinn leat a dh’ Éirinn go féill nam ban óga
Fill-iu o ro hu o, bu tu mo chruinneag bhóidheach, fill-u oro hu o
Dhéidhinn dha na rionnagan nam boidh do chuideachd deónach,

Fill-iu o ro hu o, bu tu mo chruinneag bhóidheach, fill-u oro hu o
’S chuala mi na ministearan a’ bruidhinn air do bhóichead

I would go with you to the moon if you would promise to marry me
I would go with you to Uist where the corn’s ripened.
I would go to Ireland to the feast of the young women
I would go to the stars if your company was willing
I would go east and west, without horse, bridle or boots.
Listening to the earls wanting you to marry
And I’ve heard misters talk of your beauty
Track Name: Ruidhlidh
(Scots Gaelic & English Translation)
Ruidhlidh na coillich dhubha
The black cocks will reel
'S dannsaidh na tunnagan
The ducks will dance
Ruidhlidh na coillich dhubha
The black cocks will reel
Air a bhruthaich bhoidhich
On the pretty slope
Ruidhlidh na coillich dhubha
The black cocks will reel
'S dannsaidh na tunnagan
The ducks will dance
Ruidhlidh na coillich dhubha
The black cocks will reel
Air a bhruthaich bhoidhich
On the pretty slope

Gheibh thu aran agus im
You will get bread and butter
'S caise na banaraich
And the dairy maid's cheese
Gheibh thu aran agus im
You will get bread and butter
Agus bainne bhò ann
And get cow's milk there
Gheibh thu aran agus im
You will get bread and butter
'S caise na banaraich
And the dairy maid's cheese
Gheibh thu aran agus im
You will get bread and butter
Agus bainne bhò ann
And get cow's milk there

Ma phosas Annag an diugh
If Ann marries today
Posaidh gach uile te
All the women will marry
Ma phosas Annag an diugh
If Ann marries today
Sgaradh air an t-seana bhean
Curses on the old wife
Ma phosas Annag an diugh
If Ann marries today

All the women will marry
Ma phosas Annag an diugh

'S iomadh rud tha dhìth orm
Many's the thing I lack
A dh'fheumainn fhìn mun deanainn banais
That I would need before I could have a wedding
'S iomadh rud tha dhìth orm
Many's the thing I lack
